The Leapfrogs Coffee House & Bar in Wanneroo

The Leapfrogs

The Leapfrogs is situated in the Wanneroo Botanic Gardens on the shores of Lake Joondalup. Dutch born Theo and Hanneke Puik commenced work on the site in 1974, aspiring to turn the two hectares of sandy scrubland into a magical mini-golf garden. Officially opening in 1981, it quickly became a successful tourism icon in the region, however, tea and bikkies were not enough, it lacked the delicious food and beer Leapfrogs’ guests enjoy today.

In 1995 Paul and Nicole Woodcock, daughter and son-in-law of Theo and Hanneke, purchased the business and set about solving this dilemma with the development of Leapfrogs Coffee House & Bar.

Open since 1998, it has continued to evolve into an eclectic garden venue offering fresh, tasty, honest food, locally-roasted coffee, craft beers, chai and great wines in an unbeatable atmosphere.

In recent years Mark Gill, former head chef of Little Creatures Fremantle, and his wife Karin have joined with Paul and Nicole, becoming part-owners and taking over the daily management. Their passion for people and philosophy of high quality, simple fresh produce is making Leapfrogs the biggest little busy place around.

The Leapfrogs lunchtime menu shimmers in the sandy haze of Wanneroo – here’s some highlights:

Spicy Chorizo sticky apple cider with panini bread (gluten-free option)
๏ฟผ๏ฟผNachos chilli beef, sour cream, guacamole with jalapenos (vegetarian & gluten-free option)
Grilled Asparagus Salad crispy bacon, cherry tomato, rocket, parmesan, pine nuts with honey mustard dressing (vegetarian option) or for meat-eaters, the chef recommends chicken or smoked salmon.
Roast Beetroot Salad spinach, baby carrot & orange salad with creamy feta, sesame & sticky balsamic dressing.
Lemon Pepper Char-Grilled Baby Squid greek salad, lemon herb dressing (gluten-free option)
Chilli Mussels w toasted panini bread (gluten-free option) ๏ฟผ
Beef Burger with American cheddar, pickles, onion, lettuce, smokey barbecue sauce & aioli with chips – and the chef recommends adding bacon if you wish.

Their woodfired pizzas are delectable: Moroccan Lamb feta, semi-dried tomato, chargrilled eggplant and herbed yoghurt is the height of gourmet delight. Pescetarians swoon over the Smoked Salmon sour cream, dill, red onions and capersโ€จ. Omnivores love the Margarita oven roast tomato, bocconcini and fresh basilโ€จ. While carnivores … well quite clearly they love the Carnivore prosciutto, pepperoni, ham, bacon, sausage & mozzarellaโ€จ. And for smashed avocado lovers, there’s a Chicken avocado, brie, roasted red onion and garlic oil.

Itโ€™s much nicer than a pub โ€ฆ and kinda like a restaurant โ€ฆ but simply a great place to stop, eat, drink and make friends. To make a booking give them a call on (08) 9206 4077 and they look forward to seeing you soon.
